Get Out of My House
Let's see if I can write coherently about this now.
Around 6am friday morning, my wife and I woke up to the sound of rustling in the office down the hall. Assuming that my cats were up to no good, I got up to go yell at them and instead found myself watching a man walk out of the office.
For a micro second, I actually when through a short confused phase, trying to figure out who this man was and why was he in my house. Like I was going to figure out that it was bob and he was there to fix the printer.. at 6am. It was weird to have that reaction.
But it was a very short split second reaction, followed immediately after with me flying into a berserker rage.
I charged down the hall at him screaming.. no.. roaring at him to "GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR HOUSE!" He bolted out the front door with bags bouncing off of his shoulder. He hit the porch, and then was out onto the lawn running. I stopped at the doorway, still roaring out into the night. I was no longer using words, just a deep guttural bellow that left my throat raw for days.
I turn and shut the front door and locked it, then ran back to the room to make sure lizzi was ok and calling 911 and to get my shotgun.
By the time the police got there i was pacing the house like a caged animal. steaming and shaking. I felt such red rage ..such anger and frustration.
After calming down and taking stock of the situation, things were not as bad as they could have been. He got away with both laptops, both ipods, my iriver and those awesome stereo microphones I used for podcasting. He got lizzi's wallet and a tiny amount of cash. He got my cell phone and my nice wacom tablet. But not the pen or mouse that goes with the wacom. He got the charging dock for my MX Revolution mouse, but not the mouse. Idiot. We thought he had lizzi's car keys, but found them later. Which helped alot.
When he ran, he left an air rifle and jar of bb's on the porch. He had used the bb rifle to shoot out windows of all the cars he had been robbing throughout the neighborhood.
He also used it to shoot a small hole in our living room window that allowed him to put his finger in and unhook the latch. When the window spidered and broke, he managed to catch the large pieces of glass and carry them over to the grass. We found a pile of large pieces of glass out there.
He did this without waking anyone up.
He then slide the window up and climbed past the blinds and onto the couch in the living room. He dumped out her purse and began gathering up his loot.
He opened the front door and then the glass door. He propped the glass door open and grabbed the car keys that were next to the door. He walked outside and placed the car keys onto the trunk of my wife's car. I assume he was going to use them to drive off in my car.
How we did not hear this is beyond me.
He came back in, loaded the laptops and electronics into a bag and started going through the office looking for more things to take.
This is when we finally heard him.
I am still shaken and angry and freaked out about this. He came into MY HOME. He came in while we were sleeping. He destroyed the sense of safety that we should have inside our home. Lizzi was not able to sleep much this weekend. I only slept from sheer exhaustion.
It will be awhile before we feel safe and comfortable again.
