Breaking the iTunes connection in order to fix the iTunes connection

lll._..png

One of the major problems I have run into with the Elmocast is that libsyn allows www.elmocast.com/rss AND elmocast.com/rss to both work as a legitimate feed address, without notifying the client that one is not valid while forwarding it to the valid one.

Because of this, I show up in iTunes and many other podcast aggregators twice. This effectively cut my stats in half. If you left a comment on my show in iTunes it may or may not have shown up on the one I wanted iTunes to use.

This has been very frustrating for me.  I tried to talk libsyn into making a change to their system to fix this but they were not interested in doing in this. So I am removing my feed from iTunes completely. I will then redo how I handle the domain addressing to force only one link to being used as the legitimate link and all others tell the client not to use them. Then I will re-add the feed to iTunes and see how things work.

It is going to be an interesting experiment to see if I ruin my link to subscribers or not. Not sure what is actually going to happen.

Have you thought about using

Have you thought about using something like feedburner?

I have my active podcast feed go through feedburner then set up all other recieving services (iTunes Yahoo etc...) with that one feed. Then when the website changes or the feed source changes all I have to do is change it in Feed Burner once. That feeds all the other places and does not affect listeners too much (sometimes they will get every episode reposted in their feed) Did you notice when I recently changed my feed?

I have heard mixed responses

I have heard mixed responses to using feedburner. Some people seem to love and some seem to have nothing but trouble with it. I will look into it and see if I think it will work for me, but right now I am leaning towards keeping everything in house for now.

I get all the stats I need from libsyn.com, who i use for podcast hosting, so I do not need that feature. I just need to get the elmocast.com site and elmocast rss feed acting like I want them to act.
